Spell Checker?

Post by D.A. Wright » Sat Jan 25, 2003 6:09 pm

I love this forum format. I am happy about the preview option before posting. Often, with other boards, how often do we type like mad before our web browser kicks us off-line (most time out after 20 minutes or so of "inactivity" - i.e. not changing pages) and we don't say what we wanted to, or after re-reading find we didn't explain ourselves adaquately.

Is there a way to add a spell checker to this forum? I'm always conscience of my spelling.

noo I dotn nkneed ne speel chekur. meye speeluns purfekt.

No, at least not at the moment. The spell checker is a beast (huge dictionaries, lots of database queries, eats resources), which would seriously degrade board performance.
Also development of such spell checker would be way too much for our (my) skills and resources.

I was looking for a suitable phpBB script (that's the board which we are using), but none is really working (yet).

I would suggest that you look for something which is client based. One is very neat solution (addon) for MS Internet Explorer and you can use it for all boards: http://www.iespell.com

Besides, since few days, the "edit" button is back, so you can always edit your post if you hit "submit" button too quickly.

I would definitely check out IE Spell. It works great for all boards that have no spell checker. Very easy to use. It just sits up on your tool bar and when your done typing you just click on it.
