Remembering snow level Telescope Peak 12-2013

Post by Death Valley Dazed » Sat Dec 22, 2018 11:49 am

Over at https://old.reddit.com/r/DeathValleyNP/ someone wanted to climb Telescope Peak this week (Dec 2018) and wondered what it was like. Here's an image I posted there to show the snow level when I climbed the peak in Dec 2013 w/o any special snow/ice equipment. The snow level to me was low enough to do this. I actually drove halfway up to Mahogany Flat in my old Honda 2001 Accord front wheel drive. Other than being somewhat windy and cold on top, the weather was perfect with mostly sunshine. I cherish the memory. Later, showering off at Furnace Creek a group of climbers from Colorado where there after having summited Mount Whitney in winter. They were angry that Colorado has more peaks over 14K feet than any other state, but that since CA has the tallest by a few feet, they had to drive all the way out to climb the 'damn thing." LOL
