Morton Salt makes a product that has a mix of sodium chloride and potassium chloride. It is intended for those on sodium restricted diets. However, if you use this product instead of regular salt you will be adding some potassium to the mix, which is more in line with gatorade and other electrolyte ...

One suggestion is to just not worry about it. Enjoy a hot shower. Or, crack your windows, and put a space blanket over the glass on the sunny side of the car. Keeping the beer cold is another matter alltogether. Be sure to try the Emigrant Springs water, it's the best water I've found in the park. A...

info on Ward Walters and Bob Calkins cabin

I was in the Denning Springs area last week and came across the cabin in salt basin. Anyone know where I can get more information on Walters, Calkins, or the cabin?

I called 760-786-3200 then punched 0, and got straight to Dale who read me the morning report. So I guess that is the best way to get the info. He really didn't seem to mind reading it. He might not feel that way if he has to read it fifty times a day. Dale tried to explain why the morning report wa...

superintendent

I'll try calling the Superintendent by spelling his name to the phone system tomorrow. It is Richard Martin for anyone else that wants to try.

Thanks for the info.

Morning Report

It seems that the morning report is not functioning again. It was very nice to see it posted here for awhile when it was not working the last time. If it isn't too much trouble to post it here, it really would be nice if it could be posted. Secondly, since we are now paying higher entrance fees it s...

I am always glad to be able to buy gas when I need it. If I don't need it I can opt to go to a place where it might be cheaper. But if I need gas, I'm happy just to see it is available.

Last week Furnace ran out of gas, and people were begging for that $3 gas.

It looks a lot like the Lilac Sunbonnet. Here is a closup photo. It is not exactly alike, but close. It is certainly a near match. Thanks for the ID.

unknown flower

I saw this flower near lake hill several days ago. It was the only one of these that I saw in ten days of roaming. Anyone know what it is? This is my first attempt to link to a photo, so lets hope this works.

Steve, first I want to say I take the issue of desert safety seriously, but I believe everything must be kept in perspective. I tend to react when I see inflexible rules that fail to recognize the complexity of the situation. I have done many hikes in Death Valley and in the Grand Canyon when the te...
