Re: Black Rock Desert

Wow, whole new meaning to "crop circles." I hope someone grabs a satellite image of this.

Thanks for this update and hard to believe it's been a year now. I'll be checking it out personally on my next visit to DV.

Re: Lithium mining at the edge of Death Valley

In Nevada and California the only US based lithium interest is Albemarle in Silver Peak. They are based in North Carolina and have the only working lithium production mine in North America. The other lithium exploration and feasibility sites are from Australia and Canada. FYI, Albermarle (ALB) is c...

Re: DV Reopens - Update video July 2, 2020

Interesting that they are staffing phone lines (assuming there is an answer) instead of the VC. Seems clever. I have not actually called the phone number to see if it works. FYI, The DV Natural History Association has cleverly situated themselves in the west conference room of the VC (not the audit...

Re: Some desert wildlife videos

That's why I like my "rolling basecamp"! I'm with you Candace on this one. I've boiled down my DV adventures to the very basics. I used to haul a camp stove, tent, chairs, pads, tarps, etc but now I no longer even think about cooking. Sometimes I don't even bother with an ice chest. My vehicle is m...

Re: Some desert wildlife videos

Wow, there's a peak I've climbed that Candace hasn't? Who would have guessed? Hey Geek, you should be proud of yourself for besting Candace on the Sentinel Peak challenge. ;-) I feel honored to discover her name and note in the peak registers when I bag one. BTW, I asked Mike Reynolds, DV Super abo...

Re: Wahguyhe Peak Via Strozzi Ranch

That was a death march! How was the ascent to Wahguyhe Peak from that side? When I was there we were going up the way you came down and for every three steps up that talus, you'd slide back one, argh, very tedious! Thanks for checking out the video and yes, it would have been a death march if I had...

Re: Wahguyhe Peak Via Strozzi Ranch

1. It looked like you drove up to Strozzi's in a normal, not high clearance or 4 wheel drive vehicle. Is it doable with a van? 2. How, phonetically, does one pronounce Wahguyhe? I've only read it, never heard it said. You are welcome and glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, drove in from Hwy 95 to Stro...

Bennett's Bloom July 2020

The lesser-known Bennett Peak between Telescope Peak and Rogers Peak in Death Valley National Park displays a beautiful bloom the first week of July 2020 amidst the ancient Bristlecone Pines.

Re: Some desert wildlife videos

Thanks for those delightful links which are great fun to watch. BTW last Wednesday morning as I was driving from Hwy 95 to Strozzi Ranch a critter darted across the road ahead of me about 50 yards. I was puzzled because it was too big for a kitfox and too small for a coyote. It appears rather long a...

Ok now folks.

Whose "fault" was this damn earthquake anyway? Trump says Biden caused it and Biden says Trump's hair flopping caused it. I have it on a good rumor that immediately after the quake our very own Gowergulch42 tired, hungry and thirsty walked into the Panamint Springs Bar and ordered a gin on the rocks...

Re: A jet crashes in the DV area, several onlookers injured

Yes, thanks for the link leading to the crash report. From the spectator's perspective, this situation was a shocker. “Upon impact, the French tourists began to run away from the explosion, but were unable to avoid the blast,” the report read. “All were treated for burn injuries of varying degrees.”...
